by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

For the full list of giveaways, fans can visit

JANUARY FAN BENEFITS: Beginning on Saturday, January 19, and continuing for all home games throughout the month of January, free concession vouchers will be distributed to all fans in attendance. These vouchers will enable each fan to receive three complimentary food or non-alcoholic beverage items from a select menu. Also during the month of January, fans will receive 25-percent off all merchandise in the Boston Bruins ProShop and Fan Zones during home games, with Bruins Season Ticket Holders and Premium Club clients being offered a 30-percent discount.

NEW MOBILE APP: The Boston Bruins mobile app has been updated for the 2012-13 season, with a sleek, all-new design and the following improvements: revised user interface and menu navigation for ease of use; revamped in-game section with larger display area; integration with Bruins Instagram photos and fan photos tagged with #NHLBruins; access to the Bruins official Twitter feed @NHLBruins with one-tap connection to a personal account; TD Garden concourse map with concession listings and locations; increased personal preference settings for in-game and team app alerts, additional sounds and wallpapers, and improved social sharing. The app can be downloaded via iPhone or Android phones.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS: In preparation for Saturday night’s opener against the New York Rangers, the Bruins made a number of roster transactions on Thursday, January 17, in order to get down to the league’s 23-man roster. Defenseman Matt Bartkowski and forward Ryan Spooner were assigned to the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins, while forward Jamie Tardif was placed on waivers for purpose of assignment to Providence, and defenseman Aaron Johnson joined Providence on a conditioning loan. Besides the Bruins from 2011-12 who remain, Providence Bruins forward Lane MacDermid is still with the big club, along with P-Bruins defenseman – also a former Boston University Terrier and Marshfield, MA native - David Warsofsky and another BU alum, forward Jay Pandolfo, who had been invited to the Bruins’ training camp on a Professional Tryout Agreement.

STAT YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING: This statistic from the Boston Bruins Stat Machine is for the superstitious. In the five previous seasons in which Head Coach Claude Julien has overseen the Boston bench, the Bruins have had a winning record and playoff position in each year following the 48th game of the season. The Bruins have played 48 or fewer games in a complete schedule on 19 previous occasions and have made the playoffs in 15 of those seasons.

48-GAME SEASONS: The Bruins played 30 games in their inaugural campaign of 1924-25, 36 contests in 1925-26, 44 games each from 1926-27 through 1930-31 and 48 game schedules from 1931-32 to 1941-42. The Bruins’ last 48-game schedule came in 1994-95 when they compiled a 27-18-3 record.

SCHEDULE UPDATES: In a recent schedule change, the Bruins game in Winnipeg against the Jets on Sunday, February 17, has been changed to a 5:00 p.m. CT game (6:00 p.m. ET). Puck drop was previously set for 3:00 p.m. The Bruins’ two games against Montreal on February 6 and March 27 have been pushed back half an hour to 7:30 p.m. ET, while the game on April 21 at the TD Garden against Florida is now at 12:30 p.m. ET, instead of 3:00 p.m.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Bruins will start the 2012-13 season with a two-game homestand, first facing off on Opening Night against the 2012 Eastern Conference runner-up New York Rangers at the TD Garden on Saturday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m. ET, followed by a matinee against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, January 21 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The Black & Gold are facing a Rangers team that will look to forget their 2012 Eastern Conference Finals loss to the New Jersey Devils in six games, and will do so with the help of offseason free agent signing Rick Nash, a nine-year NHL veteran.

When Winnipeg comes to town, the B’s will see a couple of familiar faces in the lineup, as former Bruins forward Blake Wheeler and defenseman Mark Stuart will hit the ice as Jets. Both were traded from Boston to the now defunct Atlanta Thrashers on February 18, 2011, in exchange for current Bruins forward Rich Peverley and Boris Valabik.

Following Winnipeg, the Black & Gold will head on the road to face the Rangers for the second time in five days on Wednesday, January 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET, before returning home to face off against the New York Islanders on Friday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Bruins face their first divisional foe on January 31 against the Buffalo Sabres at the TD Garden.

BROADCAST SCHEDULE: Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Naoko Funayama will call three of the four games next week on NESN, as Wednesday’s game in New York against the Rangers will be televised exclusively as the first “Rivalry Night” on the NBC Sports Network. The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Start times for the upcoming games are as follows:

1/25 vs. New York Islanders, 7:00 p.m. ET – NESN

THIRD JERSEY SCHEDULE: The Bruins will suit up in their third jerseys for seven games this season at the TD Garden, all against different opponents. The games are listed below.

1/21 vs. Winnipeg
1/29 vs. New Jersey
2/12 vs. New York Rangers
3/2 vs. Tampa Bay
3/16 vs. Washington
4/8 vs. Carolina
4/19 vs. Pittsburgh

129 AND COUNTING: Heading into Saturday’s home opener at the TD Garden, the Bruins have sold out their last 129 home games, including regular season and playoffs. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW): The Boston media “Tweet of the Week” is back in 2012-13. Last season, TheBruinsBlog’s Matt Kalman (@TheBruinsBlog) took home the 2011-12 Tweet of the Week title with six weeks at the top of the leaderboard. The Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa (@GlobeFluto) was not far behind, with five weeks at the top in 2011-12.

To kick off the season, the tweeting has been strong, but the first Tweet of the Week for the 2012-13 season comes from the Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa, with remnants of work stoppage rhetoric in tow.

“@GlobeFluto: Today’s slam dunk: @GlobeKPD giving me ‘Peg trip. Hill he will die on.”
