Boston Bruins Week Ahead: 9/30-10/6

by Boston Bruins @NHLBruins / Boston Bruins

THIS WEEK'S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY: Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand potted the game-tying and game-winning goals on Thursday night, propelling Team Canada to the 2016 World Cup of Hockey Championship over Zdeno Chara and Team Europe in a 2-1 victory. With Team Canada on the power play, Bergeron deflected a shot from the point with 2:53 left to play to tie the game at 1-1. Then with 0:44 on the clock and Team Canada shorthanded, Marchand took a drop-off pass in the high slot from Jonathan Toews and wristed it high stick-side for the game-winner.

Seven Boston Bruins, including Head Coach Claude Julien, participated in the tournament:

Claude Julien, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand - Canada

Zdeno Chara - Europe

Tuukka Rask - Finland

David Backes - United States of America

David Pastrnak - Czech Republic

STAT OF THE WEEK: The Boston Bruins were well represented in the World Cup of Hockey Finals with three players participating (Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand for Team Canada, Zdeno Chara for Team Europe). Bruins players accounted for five of the seven goals scored during the two-game final, and seven of the 17 points (41.2%).

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "It was pretty fast, yeah. A lot of things happened, but still, it's great to come back. It's an awesome feeling. Even - I was talking to [assistant equipment manager] Matty [Falconer] during the third period and I was saying, 'Man, I missed this crowd a lot.'" - Anton Khudobin on playing in Boston once again

@DJ_Bean (DJ Bean, WEEI) "Marchand on new contract: 'I'll play wherever. If they need me at QB I'm ready, but really it's Bill's call.' (he didn't say this don't RT)"

Over 1,200 youth players will have the opportunity to participate at one of 24 locations across New England. Each participant will be outfitted with gear from head-to-toe and receive four weeks of on-ice instruction for $100. In addition, each player will get a custom fitting at TSR Hockey. The Little Bruins program has helped to increase hockey participation, and over 60% of the youth hockey players who participated in the Little Bruins program last year subsequently enrolled in organized hockey. The Little Bruins program is open to children ages five to eight. Registration for the program will open on September 21 at 10 a.m. on www.BostonBruins.com/littlebruins on a first come, first serve basis.
