Boston Bruins Week Ahead 3/28 - 4/4

FINAL FIVE:  Five games remain on the 2007-2008 regular season slate for the Bruins and they currently stand in 7th place in the Eastern Conference.  With their victory over Toronto on Thursday, the Bruins ousted the Leafs from playoff contention.  Toronto is now the fourth team in the East to be mathematically eliminated, joining the Islanders, Thrashers and Lightning.


Looking at the remaining five games, the Bruins will face Ottawa and Buffalo twice more and New Jersey once.  The B's are 2-3-1 this season against the Sens, 4-1-1 against the Sabres and 1-1-1 against the Devils.  Three of these contests will be on the road (3/30 at BUF, 4/2 at NJ, and 4/4 at OTT) while two will be at the Garden (3/29 vs. OTT, 4/5 vs. BUF)

7TH HEAVEN:  Milan Lucic was presented with the Bruins' 7th Player award prior to Thursday's game.  This was the 39th presentation of the trophy, which is voted upon by fans for the player who has performed beyond expectations.

In addition to the award, Lucic was given a 2008 Dodge Nitro.

CHARA TO VISIT MOZAMBIQUE; CLIMB MT. KILIMANJARO:  Right to Play ambassadors Zdeno Chara of the Bruins and Robyn Regehr of the Calgary Flames will travel to Mozambique in southern Africa this summer to visit with children in Right To Play programs and get a first-hand look at the impact of Right To Play's work.  Following his stay in Mozambique, Chara will continue on to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania where he will make a six-day trek up the 19,300 ft. mountain with the goal of raising $100,000 for Right To Play.

The two players will be in Mozambique from June 24-28 and Chara will continue on to Tanzania from June 29-July 4.

Bruins forward Marc Savard is second in the NHL in assists with 63, while his 78 points are tied for 15th overall in the league.

AROUND TOWN: 
03.28.08: Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference has partnered with the charitable organization Good Sports and Nike to donate 160 pairs of basketball sneakers to the Revere Police Activities League (PAL) Basketball League.  Ference will visit the Irene O'Connell Center in Revere on Friday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET to make the donation (Irene O'Connell Center, 65 Nahant Avenue, Revere, MA 02125).

03.29.08 and 04.05.08: The Boston Bruins Foundation will once again be running it's much anticipated game used stick auction at the remaining two regular season home games. Autographed game used sticks from ALL of your favorite Bruins will be auctioned off in-game to benefit area children's charities! Stop by the Boston Bruins Foundation table located on level 4 at section 4 during the next two home games to place your bid!  Bidding will conclude with 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd intermission of the 4/5/08 home game. Winners can pick up the item that night or arrange for pickup/delivery.

03.30.08:  The Boston Bruins Ice Girls and Bruins alum Lyndon Byers will make an appearance on the 11:00 a.m. edition of The Phantom Gourmet on March 30 (TV 38).

03.30.08:  Join the Boston Bruins Ice Girls at Armstrong Rink in Plymouth for a "Skate with the Ice Girls" session from 2:30 p.m. ET - 4:20 p.m. ET (Armstrong Rink, 103 Long Pond Road, Plymouth, MA 02360).

03.31.08: Boston Bruins players Patrice Bergeron, Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic, Mark Stuart, Aaron Ward and Dennis Wideman have partnered with WBCN 104.1 FM to participate in "Cuts for a Cause," a head-shaving event that will raise money for MassGeneral Hospital for Children. The event, which will take place at the WBCN Basement on Monday, March 31st between 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. ET during the Toucher & Rich Show, will feature the six Bruins shaving their heads to benefit MassGeneral Hospital for Children (WBCN Basement, 83 Leo M. Birmingham Parkway, Boston, MA 02135).

The Boston Bruins and the New England Sports Museum have partnered to present the Stand Strong Character Search field trip program. During the morning of select Boston Bruins home game, field trip program students participate in a scavenger hunt designed to guide them through the museum and encourage them to utilize interactive exhibits and to examine artifacts. Interpretive panels relating to character in sports are spread through out the Museum.  Staff leads students through a discussion of the concepts of Determination, Courage, Fairness, Teamwork, and Responsibility.

The Boston Bruins have partnered with Village Automotive Group for their Keys to Success program.  The program aims to provide high school administrators with the tools to motivate students to achieve academic success.  Students have the chance to qualify for various prizes by exemplifying achievement of success in areas such as grade point average, improved attendance, tutoring, and volunteer work.  The grand prize is a car courtesy of Village Automotive Group, The Bruins have partnered with the program to provide incentives and to be involved with in-school rallies and events.

Milan Lucic became the tenth rookie to win the Bruins 7th Player award since its inception in 1968-69, joining Ray Bourque, Steve Kasper, Barry Pederson, Randy Burridge, Glen Wesley, Ken D. Hodge, Blaine Lacher, Kyle McLaren and Andrew Raycroft.
