Boston Bruins Week Ahead: 3/21 - 3/28

O CANADA:  The Bruins continue their five-game string of games against Canadian foes on Saturday night when they travel to Montreal to face the Canadiens.  The Bruins will then play in Toronto on Tuesday, March 25, host the Leafs on Thursday, March 27 and then battle Ottawa at the Garden on Saturday, March 29.

The Bruins dropped a 4-2 decision to the Canadiens on Thursday night.  They have eight games remaining in the 2007-2008 regular season and currently stand in 7th place, one point clear of 8th place Philadelphia and two points ahead of 9th place Buffalo.

1K FOR MUZZ:  Glen Murray played in his 1000th game in the NHL on Sunday, March 16 in Washington, becoming the 9th different player to reach the 1000 game plateau while a member of the Black & Gold and 229th in NHL history.  The eight other Bruins are John Bucyk, Jean Ratelle, Wayne Cashman, Rick Middleton, Gordie Roberts, Ray Bourque, Dave Ellett and Don Sweeney.

He was honored before the Bruins/Canadiens game on Thursday, March 20 and was presented with a silver stick from the Bruins organization, a watch and surfboard from his Bruins teammates, and a commemorative crystal from the NHL. 

PIPELINE:  The Boston Bruins and Providence Bruins announced that they have extended their exclusive player development agreement for an additional eight years through the 2015-2016 season.  Providence has served as Boston's AHL affiliate since the team was founded in 1992.

TD BANKNORTH AND COMMERCE BANK:  John Wentzell, President of the TD Banknorth Garden and DNC-Boston, issued this statement regarding the TD Banknorth/Commerce Bank merger that took place Wednesday, March 19:  "[Wednesday], our naming rights partner TD Banknorth announced a major merger with Commerce Bank for a new combined brand that will be known as TD Commerce Bank.  This change will eventually lead to the renaming of our building.  While there has been no decision relative to the new name, our shared sentiment with the bank is that the 'Garden' name will continue.  An official time line has not been set for the transition."

Bruins forward Marc Savard is second in the NHL in assists with 63, while his 77 points are tied for 12th overall in the league.


03.26.08: The Boston Bruins will host an NHL Street Hockey Clinic from 3-5 p.m. ET at the Old Colony YMCA Plymouth Division in Plymouth, MA. Boston Bruins Foundation Director of Development Bob Sweeney will be on hand to teach techniques and lead participants in drills and a scrimmage. All equipment used during the clinic will be donated to the center to provide free of charge equipment to start new hockey programming.
03.27.08: Take your Cap off for Kids and support patients at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center! During the Bruins home game on March 27th all fans are encouraged to bring a new and unused hat, which will be given to those children who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatments. In addition, the Boston Bruins pro-shop will give all fans a 15% discount off all hats purchased on March 27th! All hats donated must be new and unused and will be collected upon entering the turnstiles area. Each fan that donates a hat will have the opportunity to win new Boston Bruins autographed hats!

The Boston Bruins and the New England Sports Museum have partnered to present the Stand Strong Character Search field trip program. During the morning of select Boston Bruins home game, field trip program students participate in a scavenger hunt designed to guide them through the museum and encourage them to utilize interactive exhibits and to examine artifacts. Interpretive panels relating to character in sports are spread through out the Museum.  Staff leads students through a discussion of the concepts of Determination, Courage, Fairness, Teamwork, and Responsibility.

The Boston Bruins have partnered with Village Automotive Group for their Keys to Success program.  The program aims to provide high school administrators with the tools to motivate students to achieve academic success.  Students have the chance to qualify for various prizes by exemplifying achievement of success in areas such as grade point average, improved attendance, tutoring, and volunteer work.  The grand prize is a car courtesy of Village Automotive Group, The Bruins have partnered with the program to provide incentives and to be involved with in-school rallies and events.

The Bruins/Devils matchup on Wednesday, April 2 is the only out-of-division game remaining on the entire Eastern Conference schedule.  For the rest of the season, every other Eastern Conference team will only face opponents within their respective division.

HARD HAT TALLY:  Alternate Captain Glen Murray introduced the Bruins Hard Hat to the locker room on February 19 following the team’s win over Carolina.  The Hard Hat is awarded to the hardest working Bruin during a B’s win and is selected by the previous game’s Hard Hat recipient.
