Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the team has recalled center Vladimir Sobotka from the Providence Bruins (AHL). Sobotka has joined the team and will travel to Long Island tonight for the club's game against the New York Islanders tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Sobotka, 20 years old, was assigned to Providence on September 23 and has played in 15 games for the P-Bruins. In this, his first AHL campaign, he has tallied seven goals, seven assists and a +/- rating of +10.
A native of Trebic, Czech Republic, Sobotka was Boston’s fifth pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft (106th overall). He has spent the past four seasons playing for Slavia and Slavia Jr. teams in the Czech Republic. He was also a member of the Czech Republic’s team that competed in the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships.
Following today’s 2-1 win over the New York Islanders at the TD Banknorth Garden, the Bruins (11-7-2) head on the road for six consecutive games. During this six game stretch, Boston will visit the Islander’s twice, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Florida Panthers, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and, finally, the New Jersey Devils.
The Bruins then return home to the TD Banknorth Garden on December 6, when they will host the Montreal Canadiens at 7:00 p.m. ET.
