BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, December 28, that the team has recalled forward Nick Johnson and defenseman David Warsofsky from Providence (American Hockey League) on an emergency basis. Johnson and Warsofsky will join the team Saturday and will be eligible to play in Saturday night’s game against the Senators in Ottawa.
Johnson skated in in seven games with Boston earlier this season after earning a recall on December 10.
Johnson has skated in 23 games with Providence this season, notching 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points with a plus-seven rating.
The winger has appeared in a total of 206 games at the AHL level, racking up 64 goals and 79 assists with a combined plus-51 rating.
The forward has 111 games of NHL experience, skating in 17 games win the Phoenix Coyotes (2012-13), 77 games with the Minnestota Wild (2011-12), 10 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009-2011) and seven with the Boston Bruins (2013). In total, Johnson has accrued 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points at the NHL level.
The 6’2’’, 200-pound native of Calgary, Alberta was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round (67th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The Boston Bruins signed Johnson as a free agent on July 5, 2013.
Warsofsky has skated in three games with Boston this season after earning his first NHL recall on December 18, including his NHL debut on December 19 against the Sabres in Buffalo.
Warsofsky has skated in a total of 161 games with the Providence Bruins from 2010-13, accumulating 10 goals and 54 assists for 64 points with a plus-eight rating. In 12 AHL playoff appearances in 2013 with the P-Bruins, the blueliner tallied three assists.
Prior to joining Providence, Warsofsky skated three seasons (2008-11) with the Boston University Terriers, where he appeared in 113 games, notching 22-46=68 totals.
The 5'9'', 170-pound native of Marshfield, MA was drafted in the fourth round (95th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues. The Bruins acquired Warsofsky in exchange for Vladimir Sobotka on June 26, 2010.
