BOSTON, MA --
Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Jonathan Sigalet and goaltender Hannu Toivonen, and assigned goaltender Philippe Sauve to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL). Sigalet is recalled on an emergency basis.
Sigalet, 20, from Surrey, British Columbia, is in his second season with the Bruins organization after being selected with the club’s fourth pick (100 overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Last season Sigalet appeared in 75 games for Providence, tallying nine goals and 27 assists (36 points). Sigalet has not seen any action in Boston this season, but he has played 35 games for Providence in the 2006-2007 campaign, scoring eight goals and notching eight assists.
Toivonen, who was with Boston but did not play in team’s 4-3 win over Philadelphia on Saturday, was assigned to Providence on Sunday. He made 15 saves in the AHL club’s 7-2 win over the Springfield Falcons on Sunday. Toivonen has appeared in nine games for Providence this season, compiling a record of 3-6-0 and a goals-against average of 2.82.
While with Boston this season, Toivonen has played ten games, posting a record of 2-5-0 and a goals-against average of 4.31. His most recent outing came in a 5-0 loss at Nashville on Saturday, December 30.
Sauve has seen action twice for Boston this season. Both appearances have come in no-decision relief of Tim Thomas
, with the most recent coming on Thursday, January 4 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sauve has a goals-against average of 5.85 in NHL action this season.
In Providence this season, Sauve has seen action in 13 games. He has a record of 8-4-1 and a goals-against average of 3.44 in AHL action for Providence.
The Black and Gold return to action on Tuesday, when the club will travel to Ottawa to take on the Senators at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Bruins return to the TD Banknorth Garden on Thursday night when they host the New York Islanders at 7:00 p.m. ET.
