Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Providence Bruins (AHL).
Hunwick, who was recalled by Boston on November 22, has played a total of nine games for the NHL club this season, tallying one assist. With Providence, Hunwick has seen action in 12 games, notching four assists and a plus/minus rating of +11.
During his collegiate career, the 22-year-old Warren, MI native played in 163 games for the University of Michigan from 2003-2007, notching 24 goals and 73 assists in his four seasons.
Selected in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Hunwick competed with Team USA at two different World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 and played with current Bruins Mark Stuart (2004) and Phil Kessel (2005) on those teams.
The Bruins (17-11-3) continue their five-game homestand when they return to the TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday night to host the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:00 p.m. ET.
