- NHL Network has teamed up with Reebok (Rbk) to recognize the most exciting goals from the world of professional and amateur hockey with Rbk Hockey's Greatest Goal - an interactive online promotion that gives hockey fans the chance to choose their favorite goals from the 2005-06 hockey season. The top goal from each month during the NHL regular season will be posted on www.rbkgreatestgoal.ca
. Of the 12 possible choices, Patrice Bergeron
’s end-to-end rush against the Montreal Canadiens on February 2 was nominated for February’s goal.
“I'm honored that the goal is included in the Rbk Hockey/NHL Network poll," said Bergeron. "There were so many amazing goals scored this year in the NHL, so to even be mentioned is exciting.
“The great thing about that particular goal was that it was the product of some outstanding team play. It started with a solid breakout from behind our own goal and ended with a great return pass from Brad Boyes. It was such a great pass from Brad. It was a really unselfish play on his part.”
Bergeron scored a second highlight reel goal against the Canadiens on April 13. The goal was quite apropos as Bergeron had received the Elizabeth Dufresne Trophy for the Boston player who has been the most outstanding in home games prior to the opening face off.
Bergeron compared both goals against the Canadiens and ranked the first goal, which is the one to vote for, as his favorite.
"It's tough to say, but probably the first one," he smiled. "It was a give-and-go at the end with (Brad) Boyes so that was nice. I like both though. It's hard to tell."
Additional NHL candidates will be added during the course of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Visitors are invited to vote for their favorite goal (once per day per visitor), and the goal with the most votes will then be presented as the 'Viewer's Choice' Rbk Hockey's Greatest Goal during the half-hour show on June 22.
The two-month promotion began Friday, April 21 and culminates on Wednesday, June 22 with the 30-minute TV special Rbk Hockey's Greatest Goal, airing on NHL Network at 7:30 p.m. ET. The program counts down the year's best goals from the season as compiled by NHL Network's team of experts and previously showcased in its monthly Top 10 program.
Make sure you vote everyday so Boston’s own Patrice Bergeron
will win the contest!
