We're coming off of a busy day yesterday, despite it being a holiday (both in the US and Canada). We made a move yesterday to trade Andrew Alberts to Philadelphia. There are a lot of components, or reasons, behind that trade - and I will share a couple of them with you.
Maybe the biggest one was to open up some spots for some young guys (Sobotka and Hunwick) who we called up this morning. Secondly, you have to be very proactive in this system and you have to move early on things. We weren't going to re-sign Andrew, so we figured we'd better preserve the asset, so to speak, and get something back.
To switch gears here, I thought our games on the weekend were OK. We still have tweaking to do, be it in goaltending and special teams. I liked our offense, I liked our defense - we were tightened up in the second game so that was a good sign. I liked all our chances we got after the first period against Colorado, so there are positives to be taken from that.
We got two points on the road out of two games, we have two games left coming up on this trip, and every game is going to be a difficult one, especially this one against Montreal. We'll see where that takes us.
I'll be back to check in soon.
