Zanon blocked that shot with his face. He's heading down the tunnel with Head Athletic Trainer Donnie DelNegro.
Seconds later the handle added:That was quick. Zanon is back on the bench...
It was all just in a days work for B's defenseman Greg Zanon
, who played over 21 minutes, took two shots, landed two hits and blocked 10 shots during the B's 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
Clearly, Zanon brought his "A" game to Scotiabank Place, even though the B's have already locked up the second seed in the Eastern Conference and the Northeast Division crown.
"I’ve asked our players to play the same way no matter what," said Julien after the win. "We've got to get our good habits going and they got to become second nature, and if you only do it when you feel like it, it’s not second nature.
"He played the game he normally plays, and that’s what I wanted to see tonight."
For Zanon, there's no other way to play.
"We wanted to make a statement to ourselves that we’re ready for the playoffs and that’s playoff hockey," said Zanon of his blocks. "Everyone’s going to do it, everybody’s going get into the lanes.
"We’re just trying to be ready, ready for Saturday and ready for that first game [of the playoffs]."
By the way, even though much of the attention that came Zanon's way postgame was on account of his shot blocking, the defenseman's stick also gave Boston its 100th point of the season.
Zanon's cannon from the blueline at 3:51 of the second knuckled and slipped past Ottawa goalie Ben Bishop to give the B's the victory in Game 81 of the 2011-12.
But the blueliner shied away from saying that the game represented any sort of statement to the Senators by the defending Stanley Cup champions.
"Obviously it’s in the back of our mind that they could be an opponent, but we wanted to go out there and round out our game and make our game better," said Zanon. "We did that in some areas, and maybe some areas we got to still work on some things, but we came out to battle and play hard and we did.
"That’s the important thing, we got to two points and got to 100 and that was a goal and we got there."
