A Big Afternoon for Krejci

by John Bishop / Boston Bruins
PHILADELPHIA -- Thanks in large part to a four point game by David Krejci, the Boston Bruins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their second round series with the Philadelphia Flyers to the tune of 7-3 victory Saturday in the Wells Fargo Center.

"David Krejci was
Krejci with Milan Lucic
a real good player for us, there is no doubt there," said B's Head Coach Claude Julien, postgame. "He’s capable of being that and I think he’s ready to face this challenge."

Krejci scored two goals, added two assists on a plus-3 effort off of four shots and 19:31 of ice time.

"Well, we talked about it," said Krejci of the team's fast start. "It would be nice to get a first win and start off on the right foot in the series and I think we did a pretty good job today.

"We did a lot of the little things pretty well," explained Krejci. "We were really focused before the game and right from the beginning we were all over the puck.

"We played exactly what we talked [about] in our room before the game and we played a full sixty minutes,” he said.

Krejci played nearly a third of those 60 and was omnipresent at both ends of the ice.

"He doesn’t say much. But you know once you’ve had him for a long time, you kind of know his demeanor, you kind of know how he operates," said Julien. "There’s times where he puts so much pressure on himself that it doesn’t always help him.

"But once he finds his stride, he’s a very determined player."

Krejci's teammates seemed determined to give him as much credit as possible.

"Yeah, great game, a great way to start," said Nathan Horton of his center. "He definitely played amazing tonight and it showed on the score sheet.

"He is a special player," added Horton (1 goal, 1 assist). "We want him to have the puck as much as possible and he creates so much off of that and he gives everyone else a chance to score and a chance to be in the play.”

"He was great all game tonight and it helped us a lot," said Patrice Bergeron (3 assists). "The whole line, I thought, was good.”

“It gets us going," explained Bergeron of the Krejci line's success on Saturday. "You can see that when they are ready to play then the whole team is [too]."

Julien agreed.

"I think the one thing I can tell you is it’s nice to see that line do so well tonight," said the B's head coach. "They obviously had some challenges in the last series...although two of the overtime goals were scored by that line.

"But tonight I thought they were a real solid line. They did their job and they did it well."

But Krejci wasn't willing to call it a series just yet.

Asked if he were satisfied with his line's play during the first round and whether the trio had more to give, the center said, "You know, as a team, if you go through the round that’s a good thing.

"For me I know I didn’t prove that much but I still thought my line played pretty well. We had so many chances, we just couldn’t bury them and that sometimes happens.

"But I think we bounced back and we had a good game today," Krejci said, before he added, "One game doesn’t make a playoff so we have to keep it going.”
