Trade Deadline Day 2013 is a wrap.
Bruins' GM Peter Chiarelli officially announced at 4:30 p.m. - when the team's press release was issued - that the club has acquired defenseman Wade Redden from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2014. The pick becomes a sixth rounder if Redden plays in at least one game of the 2013 playoffs.
Earlier today, the B's confirmed they had acquired center Rob Flick from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Max Sauve.
Here's the run-down on Redden, who is the former teammate of Captain Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly on the Ottawa Senators. He and Zee played together for four seasons from 2002-06.
Redden has appeared in 23 games this year with the St. Louis Blues, scoring two goals and three assists with 11 penalty minutes - the Blues currently sit in the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The 35-year-old veteran has skated in 1017 NHL games between the Ottawa Senators (1995-2008), New York Rangers (2008-2010) and the St. Louis Blues (2012-2013) througout his career and has registered 108 goals and 347 assists for 455 points during that span. Redden recently skated in his 1,000 NHL game on February 7, 2013 against the Detroit Red Wings and is the 10th active defenseman to reach that milestone.
The 6'2", 205-pound native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan was drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round (second overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He is a former teammate of current Bruins Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly during his stint with the Senators.
Coupled with the addition of Jaromir Jagr on Tuesday, the Bruins just picked up 1,397 more games of NHL experience.
GM Peter Chiarelli is addressing the Boston media at TD Garden at 5:00 p.m. so be sure to follow the live stream via BostonBruins.com and live tweets @NHLBruins.
