ST. LOUIS -- The Vegas Golden Knights had an eight-game winning streak end with a 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center on Thursday.
Paul Stastny's eighth goal of the season and first since Dec. 10 proved to be the game-winner at 5:59 of the third period. Stastny found a loose puck to the right of Marc-Andre Fleury and poked in a backhand attempt.

Fleury made an initial save against Colton Parayko but the rebound caromed into the slot and Stastny scored after a scramble in front.

Erik Haula scored and Fleury made 37 saves for the Golden Knights (27-10-2), who also had a 13-game point streak (12-0-1) come to an end.
The winning streak and point streak are the longest in NHL history by a team in its inaugural season. Vegas hadn't lost in regulation since Dec. 1, a 7-4 defeat against the Winnipeg Jets.
"Well, you've got to start another one now, that's what we have to do," Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. "We have to bounce back from tonight's game. Like I said, we didn't play a bad game. We just weren't good enough to win it and we had some good chances at the end of the game. (Carter) Hutton made some real key saves."
Alexander Steen scored and Carter Hutton made 32 saves for St. Louis (26-15-2). The Blues have won three in a row, all started by Hutton, and were 3-0-0 on their homestand despite scoring seven goals.

"Yeah, they're a good team. They're a really good team," Hutton said of Vegas. "I thought Fleury played really, really good too. I thought early on we were better than them. And then I thought they tilted the ice. In the second, they really made a push.

"... It's fun. It's good to play. You play once every two weeks or three games in a row, it doesn't matter to me. I just try to compete. No matter who's in net, we're gonna pull the weight around here."
Steen's fifth goal of the season gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at 9:35 of the first period when he scored on a wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle.
Haula's one-timer from the slot made it 1-1 at 9:23 of the second period. It was his 15th goal of the season.

They said it

"It's a little weird (losing), but we'll learn from tonight and turn the page quick. We've got a big game tomorrow (against the Chicago Blackhawks) and we need those points again. We have to move on and get ready for tomorrow." -- Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury
"I don't think we focus as much on the opposition or that type of statistic with the opposition. I think it's been about us, especially this homestand. It's been a big focus on our game and what we want to accomplish. There were some good times. I think we limited their bad times within the game. Six points in the bank on this homestand's big for us." -- Blues forward Alexander Steen
