Three Blues Named to 2012 All-Star Ballot

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues forward David Backes, goaltender Jaroslav Halak and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo have been named to the 2012 NHL All-Star Game ballot.

The All-Star game will be hosted by the Ottawa Senators on January 29 and voting will begin on Monday, November 14 and conclude on Thursday, January 4.

Fans will be able to vote during that time for their top six All-Stars. For the fifth straight NHL All-Star Game, the balloting process is entirely digital, offering sports' most tech-savvy fans the ability to vote as often as they like via mobile devices and online.

The three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie with the most votes will be named first NHL All-Stars.

Backes, 27, has appeared in all 14 games for the Blues this season ranking fifth on the club with seven points and second with four goals. In 2010-11, the 6’3, 225-pound forward recorded three assists in his NHL All-Star game debut and became the first player in Blues’ history to record 30 goals, 30 assists and a +30 rating in a single season.

Halak, 26, posted a 3-0 shutout in his last start on November 8 vs. Chicago and improved his overall record with the Blues to 29-27-7 since being acquired by the Blues in the summer of 2010. In 2010-11, Halak set a franchise record by recording three shutouts in his first nine games as a Blue.

Pietrangelo, 21, ranks second among Blues’ defenseman with six points (two goals, four assists) while he leads the club overall in ice time per game (23:53) thru 14 contests this season. Last year, the 6’3, 205-pound defenseman tied for the club lead among defenseman with 43 points while slotting 12th league wide with 11 goals.
