And the Blues' puppy's name is...

More than 5,000 fans submitted suggestions for the Blues' puppy, which will become a future assistance dog

by Magali Valiente / St. Louis Blues

We asked Blues fans to help us name our puppy, and after more than 5,000 submissions, we're excited to announce his name is...

Barclay.

The name was among the most popular submitted online at stlouisblues.com/puppy and also honors Barclay Plager, the brother of Blues legend Bob Plager. Barclay played in 614 regular-season games with the Blues as a player and was behind the bench for 178 more as head coach. His No. 8 has been retired to the rafters at Enterprise Center.

We're confident that just like Barclay Plager, our puppy will grow up to pawsitively impact many in the future. Once the puppy has received his proper training, he will become an assistance dog for Duo, a St. Louis-based organization that provides assistance dogs to people in need.

With so many submissions, deciding on a name wasn't easy.

Here are some of the names we received: Archie, Biscuit, Blue, Bluey, Chopper, Clark, Cujo, Deke, Forest, Gino, Handy, Jazz, Louie Jr., Note, Puck, Saint, Sid, Slapshot and Sparky.

We also received quite a few puns on player names: Alex Pawtrangelo, Bernie Furbarko, Bark Hull, Colton Pawayko, Ivan Barkashev, Jay Bowwowmeester, Pawvol Demitra, Pawbby Fabbri and Wagimir Tarasenko.

And of course, because we asked the Internet, we appreciated all the submissions for Barky McBarkface, Doggy McDogface, Furry McFurFace and Puppy McPupFace.

Luckily, the excitement doesn't end with this name reveal. Stay up to date on Barclay's development by following him on Instagram at @stlbluespup, and make sure to catch him at home games this season!
