by Chris Pinkert / St. Louis Blues

ST. LOUIS - You did it, St. Louis!

Thanks to your votes, Vladimir Tarasenko has been selected for the cover of the EA Sports' NHL 17 video game, which will be released on Sept. 13 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

The announcement was made Wednesday night during the 2016 NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

"It's an incredible honor to represent my teammates and all the Blues fans around the world on the cover this year," Tarasenko said. "As a player, it's a big deal to be fan selected for something like the Cover Vote, and I'm excited to be involved in the game this year."

More than six million votes were cast at and on Twitter using individual player hashtags. Fans used #NHL17Tarasenko over and over again to help the Blues forward beat Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman, Dallas' Jamie Benn and San Jose's Joe Pavelski in the NHL Cover Vote tournament, which lasted three weeks.

This will mark the first time since 2000 (Chris Pronger) that a St. Louis Blues player has been featured on the cover of the game.

Tarasenko led the Blues with 74 points last season, scoring 40 goals and 34 assists. He was the first 40-goal scorer in St. Louis since Brad Boyes scored 43 during the 2007-08 season. Tarasenko also helped guide the Blues to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2001, scoring nine goals and six assists (15 points) in 20 playoff games this season.

The 24-year-old native of Yaroslavl, Russia has played in 259 career regular season games, scoring 106 goals and 103 assists (209 points). In those games, he also has posted a plus-55 rating and a 13.8 percent shooting percentage.

NHL 17 will bring all-new experiences to many fan-favorite game modes, including unprecedented on-ice gameplay control, new depth and customization options in the EA Sports Hockey League and all-new Synergy and Dynamic Sets features for the Hockey Ultimate Team mode. Players can also shape their legacy with new Draft Champions, Franchise Mode and World Cup of Hockey game modes. The game promises more authentic goaltending, new net battles on offense and defense and bone-crunching collision physics.

NHL 17 is available for pre-order now. Fans who purchase early can receive in-game equipment in the EA Sports Hockey League, an exclusive NHL 94 goal celebration and a one-month trial of EA Access (Xbox One only). To learn more or to pre-order, visit
