Tarasenko Named First Star of the Week

ST. LOUIS – The NHL announced today that Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko has been named First Star for the week ending March 13.

Tarasenko, 24, shared the League lead with six points (three goals, three assists) for the week as the Blues went 4-0-0 with wins over the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars.

The Yaroslavl, Russia native posted an assist on Wednesday against the Blackhawks before registering back-to-back multi-point games, including two goals and an assist against the Ducks and a goal and an assist against the Stars.

Overall, Tarasenko shares 14th with 61 points for the season, while his 33 goals are tied for fifth.

He has become the youngest Blue to post back-to-back 30-goal season since Brendan Shanahan (1992-93 and 1993-94).

The Blues are set to swing through Western Canada this week, starting with a date tonight in Calgary (8 p.m. CST). The club has combined to go 5-0-0 against Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver this season, while Tarasenko has accumulated 10 goals and 15 assists in 30 career appearances against those teams.

Other Stars of the Week included Florida Panthers center Vincent Trocheck and New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid.
