With Training Camp just a few days away, we explored how the Blues stay fueled for the season.
Blues Director of Performance Ryan Podell and Strength and Conditioning Assistant Jake Reynolds dove into the science behind a few of the team's post-workout staples and even gave us the recipe so you can make them at home.

Following grueling workouts and games, Podell and his team focus on simple carbohydrates to preserve and replenish what players expel during their rigorous activity. Bananas are an easy method of providing this key nutrient for quick absorption into the blood stream. The sodium contained in the electrolytes packet also helps to restore what is lost in players' sweat.
Post-Workout Protein Shake - (5 servings)
- 5 scoops of BioSteel Whey Protein - Vanilla
- 1 packet (5g) of BioSteel Essential Electrolytes
- 40 oz ice
- Water (based on desired thickness)
- 2-3 bananas (optional)
Instructions
1. Pour ice into blender and add electrolytes packet, protein powder and water.
2. Add bananas, if desired for added flavor.
3. Blend until smooth.
While Podell and Reynolds are concerned with the body's response to ingredients, there is still another vital component of smoothie making.
"By far, the most important part, is the taste test," Podell says.
