Faulk scores twice, Blues defeat Kraken in OT

SEATTLE --Justin Faulk scored his second goal of the game at 2:10 of overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday.

Faulk won it with a wrist shot from between the face-off circles after a pass from Vladimir Tarasenko, who had three assists.
"Just a good job by [Robert Thomas] to stay on it," Faulk said. "We got pressure pretty good there on the half wall and then even down low. Just kind of keeping it a little greasy, and then it popped out to 'Vladi' in front and just a nice, heads-up play by Vladi to see me come in."

Brayden Schenn had a goal and an assist, and Thomas had two assists for the Blues (2-0-0). Jordan Binnington made 32 saves.
"We'll take the two points, but it definitely was pretty ugly," Faulk said. "Second and third period, we kind of got outskated and got outworked. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's probably good for us to see that some teams that are playing with pace already, you know? We're a little behind the eight ball on games played, but we need to pick up our pace and do it the whole game."
Adam Larsson scored, and Alex Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand each had two assists for the Kraken (1-2-2), who have lost three straight at home (0-2-1). Martin Jones made 24 saves.
Shane Wright, the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, got his first NHL point for Seattle with an assist.
"We played a good hockey game," Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. "There's two, three minutes in the first period we gave up a couple of quick ones, but [they] regained their composure and played a [heck] of a hockey game.
" … This is our hockey team tonight. The way we battled, competed and executed, the pace and the tenacity that we played with. Tonight is a good standard to go off of and continue to build from."
Jordan Kyrou gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at 7:16 of the first period with a wrist shot from the right circle moments after a Seattle power play expired, but Will Borgen tied it 1-1 at 10:51 with a one-timer from Wennberg in the right circle.
Schenn put the Blues back in front 2-1 on a rebound at 11:55 after a turnover behind the net.
Faulk extended the lead 17 seconds later at 12:12 when he lifted a backhand past Jones after Schenn found him streaking toward the net to make it 3-1.

Ryan Donato cut it to 3-2 at 10:44 of the second period when he scored on his own rebound after a breakaway.
"I know he finishes hard, and he doesn't give up on plays," Binnington said of Donato. "It's kind of what happened there; made the first save, and he stayed with it. And I was in a good position to get that rebound."
Wright was credited with the secondary assist for his first point.
"Pretty cool moment, for sure," he said. "Every game, I feel more confident and more comfortable out there. It's part of the learning experience and part of the learning curve."

Larsson tied it 3-3 with a shot from the point at 18:31.
Binnington made 12 saves in the third period to extend the game.
"Just enjoying the moment and just trying to find a way and stay focused throughout the game," Binnington said. "We're definitely happy we got a win tonight. … Keep your head down, keep building, and it's early on. We've got to keep coming together as a team and we know we can be better."
NOTES: It was Faulk's third career overtime goal with the Blues, tying Alex Pietrangelo and Erik Johnson for the most by a defenseman in their history. … Tarasenko had assists 17 seconds apart, the fastest by a St. Louis player since Brett Hull had two in 12 seconds Nov. 14, 1996. It was the second-fastest two goals in the NHL this season; Vancouver Canucks forwards Bo Horvat and Curtis Lazar scored 11 seconds apart at the Washington Capitals on Monday. … Seattle forward Andre Burakovsky had a four-game point streak end.
