Blues top Ducks on Patrik Berglund's overtime goal

ANAHEIM -- Patrik Berglund scored his second goal of the game 51 seconds into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 2-1 victory against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
It's the first win at Honda Center for the Blues since Oct. 17, 2009. St. Louis was 0-9-1 in its previous 10 visits to Anaheim.

Jaden Schwartz carried the puck into the right circle, spun and fed a pass across the slot. Berglund escaped Ryan Getzlaf and deflected the puck past goaltender John Gibson for the win. It was Berglund's second two-goal game of the season.

"I think [Schwartz] made a great decision to leave the zone and regroup and get some speed going," Berglund said. "Great play by him. I just kind of went straight towards the net."
The Blues (23-16-5) won for the second time in as many nights. Backup goaltender Carter Hutton, who shut out the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, made 23 saves.
"I felt good," Hutton said. "Since after Christmas, I've been seeing the puck well. I've been working on battling and competing to find pucks while staying on my feet as long as possible. I work hard when I'm not playing. I visualize pucks and work on my tracking."
Rickard Rakell scored his 18th goal in 35 games and Gibson made 23 saves for the Ducks (24-13-9), who are 1-8 in overtime.
Anaheim failed to capitalize on what the Ducks felt were high-quality chances. But they have points in 11 of their past 12 games and said there were elements of this game they can build on.

"We had a lot of chances tonight, and it would've been nice to score a few more goals," Rakell said. "Going forward, we can take this with us. Just stay confident. We created chances. I thought we played a pretty good game. We can't get too down."
Berglund made it 1-0 at 11:03 of the second period when he beat Gibson with a sharp-angled backhand.
"I didn't think we were as effective as we should've been in the second period," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We let them dictate the play. They got a goal off a faceoff play, which is always a burr in a coach's side. We responded in the third period. We had a good effort. We've had a great little run and we're still getting points. That's the most important thing."
Rakell tied it 1-1 at 5:11 of the third period when he swept a rebound past Hutton.

Schwartz saw Berglund escaping his defender and speeding into the slot. He fed Berglund for the top-shelf chip shot.

Save of the game

Vladimir Tarasenko nearly gave the Blues a 2-0 lead early in the third period when a 2-on-1 developed and Korbinian Holzer fell to the ice trying to get a stick on the puck. But Gibson stopped Tarasenko's backhand attempt on the doorstep.

It was a physical game that featured several big hits, but Josh Manson had more than anyone else with 10.

Highlight of the game

On his first goal, Berglund beat two defenders to a puck off the end boards and slipped it past Gibson so quickly the goalie didn't immediately know it was behind him.

Rakell played in his 200th NHL game. … The Blues were 5-11-1 on the road before winning in San Jose and Anaheim. St. Louis is 1-12-2 at Anaheim during the past 10 years.
