Sobotka to Play for Czech Republic

Blues broadcaster Chris Kerber sits down with Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka to talk about his selection to play for the Czech Republic in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

ST. LOUIS – Czech Republic Hockey announced their 25-man roster that will compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka will be making his first Olympic appearance.

Sobotka, 26, will be representing the Czech Republic for the third time in his career. Previously, the Trebic, Czech Republic native appeared in the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships and was named the Czech Republic’s Second Star at the end of the 2007 tournament.

This season, the 5-foot-10, 197-pound forward ranks eighth on the Blues with 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 35 games.

The Czech Republic team was eliminated by Finland in the quarterfinals at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, finishing seventh in the tournament. They will play in Group C alongside Latvia, Sweden and Switzerland.
