St. Louis Blues forward Robert Thomas joined firefighters, police officers and paramedics in York Region on Wednesday to donate and distribute hand sanitizer to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

York Region has a population of 1.1 million people and is located near Toronto. According to a report from NewMarketToday.ca on Tuesday, York Region has 523 reported cases of COVID-19.

"This is the community I grew up in, and there are a lot of people who could use some help during this pandemic," Thomas told stlouisblues.com. "It was important to me to get out and give back to people who need it."

The pandemic has halted the NHL season since March 12.
