Several media outlets have recently recognized Dave Checketts' role in turning Real Salt Lake into one of Major League Soccer's biggest success stories.
Eric Wynalda, a former U.S. National Team soccer player and current studio analyst for Fox Soccer Channel, spoke with the Deseret News recently.
"The way they play and the way they've been put together by Dave Checketts, hopefully more clubs in Major League Soccer will take that model and say that's how you build a successful team that's going to have the opportunity to win trophies like this," Wynalda said. "There's no way anyone outside of David Checketts would have given them a chance."
Real Salt Lake won the MLS championship last season.
Michael Lewis of The Salt Lake Tribune wrote on April 19: "Since coming out of nowhere to win the 2009 MLS Cup Championship, (Real Salt Lake) has established itself clearly as the best team in the league - its riding a 17-game regular-season unbeaten streak and has won all four league games this season."
Checketts, of SCP Worldwide, also owns the NHL's St. Louis Blues.
