ST. LOUIS - The Blues will turn back to Jake Allen tonight as they get back to work against the Winnipeg Jets (7 p.m., FSMW, KMOX) following a three-day break for the NHL All-Star Game.
Allen came into the third period of the Jan. 26 game in Minnesota in relief of Carter Hutton. He faced just three shots in 17 minutes and 49 seconds of play but stopped them all.
Tonight will be his first start since Jan. 19 against the Washington Capitals.
"I felt like it's been awhile for me to play. I'm looking forward to getting back in there and getting to work with the guys again," Allen said. "I'm just (trying) to get back to my game. I don't expect to be perfect, but just get in there, battle for the guys and give them a chance to win."
"He's like any other good player, you've just got to stay with it," Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We made the determination we're going to stay with him, so whatever happens, happens. We'll work through it. He's like our team. It's been up and down, and for us to get into the playoffs, we're right in the mix with everyone else. We're going to have to have consistent performances from a lot of top players, and he's just one of many we're going to need to have that from."
In addition, Hitchcock said Carl Gunnarsson will replace Robert Bortuzzo in the lineup tonight.
Here is the projected lineup based on Tuesday's gameday skate:
Alexander Steen - Paul Stastny - David Perron
Jaden Schwartz - Jori Lehtera - Vladimir Tarasenko
Robby Fabbri - Patrik Berglund - Ryan Reaves
Scottie Upshall - Ivan Barbashev - Nail Yakupov
Joel Edmundson - Alex Pietrangelo
Carl Gunnarsson - Kevin Shattenkirk
Jay Bouwmeester - Colton Parayko
