BLUES Tyler Bozak scored his first goal as a Blue and Alexander Steen scored, too, but Andrew Cogliano scored a power-play goal with 5:16 remaining in the third period to hand the Blues a 3-2 defeat in their last game.
The Blues fell to 1-2-2 on the season and will embark on a three-game road trip starting Wednesday in Montreal.
"We're doing a good job of getting back when we get down and getting that lead," Bozak said after the game. "Unfortunately, we're not holding it… We've just got to bear down harder and make some harder plays in the third."
"We can't afford to keep losing games, especially this year and against divisional opponents, too," Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo said. "This is a big trip for us to get away and build this thing to play the entire game."
The Blues will get Jaden Schwartz (lower-body) back in the lineup on Wednesday. Robert Bortuzzo, who left Sunday's game against Anaheim with a lower-body injury, skated Tuesday but won't play against the Canadiens.
CANADIENS The Montreal Canadiens scored seven goals on Monday night to earn a 7-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings. It was their sixth consecutive win against Detroit.
Jonathan Drouin scored twice - his first two-goal game in a Canadiens uniform - while Thomas Plekanec, Tomas Tatar, Brendan Gallagher, Charles Hudon and Paul Byron also added goals for Montreal.
The Canadiens are 3-1-1 this season.
In the offseason, Montreal traded Max Pacioretty, a five-time 30-goal scorer, to the Vegas Golden Knights. Forward Alex Galchenyuk, who ranked third on the club last season with 19 goals, is now with the Arizona Coyotes. The Canadiens are relying on Gallagher, Tatar, Max Domi and Drouin to replace their production.
