Pietrangelo, Allen Make Canada WJC Roster

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo along with prospect goaltender Jake Allen have been named to Canada’s National Junior Team roster.

Pietrangelo, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the first round, fourth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. A native of King City, Ontario, Pietrangelo has skated in nine games for the Blues this season, registering two points (one goal, one assist) along with six penalty minutes. The 6-3, 204-pound defenseman played in eight games for the Blues last season and appeared in 36 games for the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), recording 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) and 32 penalty minutes. Pietrangelo made his second consecutive appearance at the 2009 OHL All-Star Game and helped Team Canada capture the gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship.

Allen, 19, was drafted by the Blues in the second round, 34th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-1, 190-pound goaltender has played in 23 games this season with the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), posting an 11-10-1 record, one shutout, a .912 save percentage and a 2.66 goals against average.

The 2010 World Junior Championship will be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5, in Saskatoon and Regina, Sask. Canada's first game will be Dec. 26 against Latvia (4 p.m. ET, NHLN-US, TSN2).
