Louie spent some time helping staff members at PNC Bank build a playground for children at the corner of Blaine and Thurman Street in St. Louis on Wednesday.
The Blues' mascot helped shovel mulch, smooth out concrete and delivered plenty of smiles to volunteers who had been working outside since early morning.
The playground was being built with volunteers from Kaboom, a national non-profit organization that dedicates itself to saving play for America’s children.
“This is the 2,167th playground we’ve built, and we work with great groups like PNC Bank to make sure kids have great places to play,” said Dan Nemiroff, a project manager with Kaboom. “(They’ve) been fantastic. This is the eighth playground we’ve built with PNC, and they’re so dedicated to the communities that they work in. Their volunteers are out here working incredibly hard to make this happen.”
Nearly 100 PNC Bank employees were participating in the build, which required everything from digging, setting up the equipment, pouring concrete and more. A ribbon cutting was expected around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“PNC Bank is very community-oriented and involved,” said Brenda Sona, a branch manager for PNC Bank in Desoto, MO. “To be able to come out and do something where you can see the results, it makes everything worthwhile.”
