Kelly Makes Cup Finals Prediction

by Staff Writer / St. Louis Blues
Blues' TV play-by-play voice John Kelly took a few minutes to break down the Stanley Cup Finals matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Who does he think will hoist the Cup?

John Kelly - Detroit in 7
Although it pains me say this, considering my allegiance to the Blues, I feel the Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup in seven games.

I think the biggest factor favoring the Wings is their experience. Nicklas Lidstrom is perhaps the best defenseman in hockey and veterans like Chris Chelios and Brad Stuart round out a very deep blueline. Up front, the Penguins can match the Wings skill, but they can't match their experience and Stanley Cup pedigree.

In addition, both Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg are in their prime. They remind me of Colorado's Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg when they were winning Cups.

I think the Penguins could win the series if Marc-Andre Fleury outplays Chris Osgood, which is very possible. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both must have a monster series for the Penguins to win, which again is possible.

Although I'm pulling for the Pens to win, my brain tells me to take the experience and pick the Red Wings in seven.
