How the 2016-17 Blues Were Built

ST. LOUIS - Now that free agency has settled down and Jaden Schwartz’s contract situation has been sorted out, the 2016-17 Blues team appears to be set.

The club lost a few veteran players this summer, including David Backes and Troy Brouwer - who left via free agency - and Brian Elliott, who was traded to the Calgary Flames at the 2016-17 draft. Key offseason moves include locking up Jake Allen for the next five years, signing Schwartz to a five-year deal, and bringing in free agents David Perron and goalie Carter Hutton.

There’s still more than two months until the season begins, so things could change: Vladimir Sobotka is expected to officially return and General Manager Doug Armstrong could still make a few tweaks to his roster. But for the most part, the 2016-17 Blues appear to be set.

Vladimir Sobotka
Armstrong has indicated he expects Sobotka to return after two seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League. Sobotka was originally acquired from the Boston Bruins in exchange for David Warsofsky on June 26, 2010.

Alexander Steen
acquired from Toronto along with Carlo Colaiacovo in exchange for Lee Stempniak on Nov. 24, 2008.

Kyle Brodziak - signed July 3, 2015

David Perron- signed July 1, 2016
Perron was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round (26th overall) in 2007. He spent six seasons with the Blues and returned this summer as a free agent.
