Hjalmarsson to Represent Sweden at Juniors

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues prospect Simon Hjalmarsson (SEE-muhn, H’YAHL-muhr-suhn) has been selected to represent Sweden at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-20 Championship, commonly referred to as the World Junior Championship, in Ottawa, Ontario, Dec. 26, 2008-Jan. 5, 2009. The 10-team World Junior Championship annually showcases the world’s best hockey players under the age of 20.


Hjalmarsson, 19, was selected in the second round, 39th overall by the Blues in the 2007 Entry Draft. He is currently in his second season with Boras HC in the Swedish second league and has recorded 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) and 10 penalty minutes in 21 games played.
