Hitchcock to Coach Missouri State Practice

by Chris Pinkert / St. Louis Blues

Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock is taking his brand of coaching to Missouri State.

Hitchcock, the 2012 Jack Adams Award Winner as the NHL's Coach of the Year, will travel to Springfield, MO to run a practice for the Missouri State Bears on Thursday, Nov. 15. Hitchcock will be joined on the ice by Blues Hall of Famer Al MacInnis, Video Coach Danny Brooks and FOX Sports Midwest analyst Darren Pang.

Hockey fans in the area are invited to the Mediacom Ice Park beginning at 7:45 p.m. The practice will begin at 8:15 p.m.

"We are honored to have Coach Ken Hitchcock, Al MacInnis, Darren Pang and Coach Danny Brooks coming to Springfield to meet our Ice Bears fans and lead our players in a team practice session," Head Coach Bob Butcher told "It will be a very exciting and productive experience for our players and coaches and we want our fans to share in this very unique experience."

Helping out in the community is nothing new for Hitchcock. In the last several months, he has hosted a series of Coaching Clinics for St. Louis area youth hockey coaches and also ran a Mizzou Hockey practice at the Lindenwood Ice Rink in Wentzville.

"It's important for us to stay active," Hitchcock said after Mizzou's practice on Oct. 21. "Just being able to work with athletes...the skill level is not relevant for us. Coaching is coaching. What's relevant is that they have fun."

The Ice Bears are asking fans to bring a food item or a toy to the practice session. All donations will be given to The Kitchen in Springfield, an organization that provides housing, food, counseling and more to people in need.
