ST. LOUIS – On Sunday, March 30, at 5 p.m., the St. Louis Blues Alumni will take to the ice at Kirkwood Recreation Station Ice Arena for perhaps its most important and touching scrimmage ever - “Goals and Assists for Kirkwood,” an exhibition game benefiting families affected by the Feb. 7 Kirkwood City Council tragedy.
The game will feature Kirkwood resident and former Blue Jim Campbell, Hall of Famers Al MacInnis and Bernie Federko as well fan favorites such as Scott Mellanby, Kelly Chase and Tony Twist along with other local Blues Alumni.
Tickets for the game are $100 each and will include the post-game VIP party. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Kirkwood Community Center and from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays. There are a very limited number of tickets available.
“Goals and Assists for Kirkwood” was first conceived by the Blues Alumni, which has raised millions of dollars for local charities over the past several years. The event in Kirkwood, however, will be the group’s most ambitious and far-reaching event ever. One anonymous donor has already contributed to the cause, donating $50,000 and promising to contribute up to $100,000 more by donating $10,000 for every additional $50,000 donation received by outside parties.

Other Ways to Help
If you can't attend the Alumni game, there are other ways to help.
- Blues' wives and alumni will collect donations at the Mar. 29 game vs. Chicago at Scottrade Center. Blues players will match all fan contributions.
- A portion of ticket sales for the Apr. 1 game vs. Nashville will be donated to the cause. To purchase your tickets and ensure you are helping benefit the affected families, please call Tom Schmidt at 314-589-5855.
"Hockey has deep roots in Kirkwood, so the pain of the Feb. 7 tragedy continues to have a profound effect on the St. Louis Blues, the Blues Alumni and particularly alums like me, who have called St. Louis home for many decades," said Bruce Affleck, executive director of broadcasting and Blues Alumni.
"We believe in Kirkwood and are dedicated to the community in every respect and are honored to support the victims’ families of the tragedy that occurred at city hall," said Peter McLoughlin, CEO of St. Louis Blues Enterprises. “The Blues will donate to ‘Goals and Assists for Kirkwood’ and as an appreciation will give back to those who donate to the cause.”
Blues Alumni are challenging local corporations to contribute to the cause, inviting companies to match donations made by their employees. The St. Louis Blues have stepped up again and will give a 25 percent gift certificate towards Blues tickets for this season or next season (excluding the 2008-09 Blues home opener) to those who donate $100 or more (25 percent for donations of $100 or more in $100 increments). For example, if a company donates $10,000, they will receive $2,500 in Blues gift certificates. For more information on how to participate in this corporate challenge, organizations may contact Bruce Affleck at 314-622-2531.
Blues fans can contribute to “Goals and Assists for Kirkwood” on Saturday, March 29, when wives of current Blues players and Blues Alumni players will be at Scottrade Center to collect donations at the Blues-Blackhawks game, with Blues players matching the amount of all contributions received that evening. In addition, the St. Louis Blues will donate a portion of any ticket sold through the “Goals and Assists for Kirkwood” program for the Tuesday, April 1st game against the Nashville Predators. Contact Tom Schmidt at 314-589-5855 for more details.
