ST. LOUIS - Brian Elliott will start Game 1 of the Blues’ first-round playoff matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks.

“He wants a crack at the playoffs and you’ve got to admire that,” Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said. “He’s earned it. He wants a crack, he’ll get it.”

Since taking over the starting role after Jake Allen was injured on Jan. 8, Elliott has gone 18-4-2. In that stretch, he posted a franchise record with 11 consecutive victories along with three straight shutouts, going 198 minutes and 12 seconds without allowing a goal.

Elliott finished the regular season first in the League in save-percentage (.930) and second in goals-against average (2.07).

In 2012, Elliott led the Blues to a first-round series victory against the San Jose Sharks in five games.

The Blues will open their first-round series with the Blackhawks on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Scottrade Center.
