Darren Pang Joins Broadcast Booth

by Staff Writer / St. Louis Blues

Darren Pang, one of the premier announcers in hockey, will join Fox Sports Midwest as the analyst on St. Louis Blues telecasts beginning in the 2009-10 season. Pang will work alongside John Kelly in the television booth, forming one of the most accomplished broadcast teams in the NHL.

Pang provides commentary for national NHL telecasts on NBC and has served as a studio analyst for Canada’s TSN network. He comes to Fox Sports Midwest after four seasons as the Phoenix Coyotes TV analyst. Prior to the Coyotes, Pang spent 12 years covering hockey for ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.

“My wife and I are thrilled to join the Blues organization," said Pang. "Having a Hall-of-Famer in our profession like John Davidson, who was one of the top analysts in all of sports, ask you to join his team is a true honor. Joining John and Bernie and staying in the Fox Sports Family, I couldn't hope for anything more. The Blues are one of the top young teams ready to make that next step and I can't wait to broadcast our first game."

Hall-of-Famer Bernie Federko will shift to a new role as ice-level analyst between the benches for home games and co-host of Fox Sports Midwest’s Blues Live pregame and postgame shows. Federko will also join Kelly in the booth on dates when Pang is fulfilling national TV duties.

Fox Sports Midwest, entering its 14th season as the Blues TV partner, will televise more than 70 games in 2009-10. For the first time in team history all Blues games will be televised.

“We’re thrilled to add Darren Pang to our TV team,” said Jack Donovan, Fox Sports Midwest General Manager and Senior Vice President. “We have increased the number of Blues telecasts on Fox Sports Midwest and we’re sure the knowledgeable St. Louis fans will appreciate Darren’s insights alongside the analysis of John and Bernie throughout the season.”

“To be able to add someone of Darren Pang’s ability to the St. Louis Blues broadcasting team speaks volumes to where this franchise is headed,” said Mike McCarthy, Vice Chairman, St. Louis Blues. “We are adding one of the great hockey analysts currently on the air. This is a wonderful addition that I know St. Louis Blues fans will enjoy. The storied history of outstanding sportscasters working in St. Louis -- from Jack and Joe Buck to Bob Costas and Dan Kelly has made it the home address for outstanding sports broadcasts -- and Darren Pang adds to that legacy.”

“Darren is one of the top analysts in our game and a true professional," said John Davidson, St. Louis Blues President, Hockey Operations. “Teaming him with John, and adding Bernie between the benches will improve our telecasts for our fans and forms, what we think, will be one of the premier broadcast teams in the sport."
