Couple delays baby's birth to attend Opening Night

ST. LOUIS - For the Dietikers, not even the birth of their child could stop them from joining the sold-out crowd at Enterprise Center to see the Blues raise their 2019 Stanley Cup Championship banner to the rafters.

According to an article published by KMOV.com on Thursday, Melissa Dietiker was scheduled to be induced at 10 p.m. but chose to attend Wednesday's game against the Washington Capitals anyway.

When asked why the couple wasn't busy preparing for the baby's arrival, Melissa simply replied, "because my husband (John) loves the Blues."

"Originally, it was scheduled to be a little earlier," John said. "I was like 'Listen doc, we can have another baby but how often are we going to raise the banner? So, I think we can push it back a few hours.'"

After the game, the Dietikers went to the hospital, where their baby girl, Rian - named for Ryan O'Reilly - arrived.

"Her name was really easy to pick after we won the Cup," John said. "I orginally wanted her middle name to be 'Conn Smythe Winner' and 'Stanley Cup Champion,' but my wife made (me make) some concessions."
