Brewer Named Alternate Captain for Team Canada

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada, along with Team Canada head coach Andy Murray, and general manager Steve Yzerman, announced on Friday that forward Shane Doan (Halkirk, AB/ Phoenix Coyotes) will serve as Canada’s captain, while Eric Brewer (Kamloops, BC/ St. Louis Blues) will be the only permanent alternate captain.


A second alternate captain will be named for each game on a game-per-game basis.

Brewer, 28, has represented Canada on seven separate occasions, including four World Championships, winning two gold medals with Canada in 2003 and 2004. Brewer also played at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, winning gold both times.

The 2007 IIHF World Hockey Championship will run from April 27-May 13, 2007 in Moscow, Russia.

Canada opens the 2007 IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship on April 28 against Germany. All of Canada’s games will be broadcast live by TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada. (check local listings).
