WINNIPEG - Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was not in the lineup Sunday when the Blues met the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre.
Bouwmeester sustained a lower-body injury in the third period of Saturday’s 3-2 win in Ottawa.
Bouwmeester had the longest active “Iron Man” stream in professional sports at 737 consecutive regular season games. Including playoffs, Bouwmeester played in 743 straight games.
Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said after Saturday’s game that Bouwmeester “stepped on a crack in the ice” and would be evaluated on Sunday morning.
In his place, St. Louis native Chris Butler made his Blues debut. Butler becomes just the second St. Louis-born player to wear the Blue Note. The first was Cam Janssen.
The 28-year-old defenseman played hockey at Chaminade and signed a two-way contract this summer. Butler has played in 349 career NHL games, registering 10 goals and 65 assists (75 points).
