ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues will get an extended look at the new five-minute 3-on-3 overtime format in three upcoming preseason games.
The following games will include a five-minute overtime regardless of the score at the end of regulation:
- Sept. 22 at Columbus Blue Jackets (Nationwide Arena)
- Sept. 26 at Chicago Blackhawks (United Center)
- Oct. 1 vs. Chicago Blackhawks (Scottrade Center)
By designating preseason games to feature overtime regardless of the score, the NHL is allowing players, coaches, management and on-ice officials an opportunity to test the format before it's introduction with the 2015-16 regular season.
All preseason games tied at the end of regulation will also use the new 3-on-3 format. If still tied after overtime, the game will go to a shootout.
The games listed above will NOT go to a shootout if a team is leading after regulation.
The Blues will will begin the preseason with a split squad game on Sept. 22 at Columbus. The puck drops at Nationwide Arena at 6 p.m., with the home game vs. Columbus scheduled for 7 p.m. at Scottrade Center. Preseason tickets start as low as $7 for the Blues' first two home games.
