ST. LOUIS - With two No. 1 goaltenders on the roster, one of the hot topics among Blues fans is how the club will manage their goalies as the season enters its final stretch.
After posting three consecutive shutouts to tie a franchise record and facing back-to-back games this weekend, Brian Elliott was told to stay home, relax and skip the team’s trip to Washington D.C. for Saturday’s matchup with the Capitals.
Following Friday’s win, the Blues rushed to the airport for a two-hour flight to the nation’s capital, then had a one-hour commute to the team hotel. Because they’re traveling to the Eastern Time Zone, the team will automatically lose an hour due to the time zone change, meaning the players and coaches didn’t get to bed until well after 3 a.m.
Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock announced the plan for his goalies earlier this week, saying Elliott would start against Vancouver, while Jake Allen would start Saturday against Washington. Hitchcock is sticking to that plan, with Anders Nilsson serving as the back up Saturday.
