Blues Get Bortuzzo, Pick from Penguins

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has acquired defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a 2016 seventh-round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Ian Cole.

Bortuzzo, 25, has dressed in 38 games for Pittsburgh this season, recording six points (two goals, four assists) and 68 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defenseman has appeared in four career NHL seasons, all with Pittsburgh, accumulating 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) and 171 penalty minutes in 113 regular season games.

In addition, Bortuzzo has played in eight career postseason games, logging one assist and four penalty minutes. The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round, 78th overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Cole, 26, has dressed in 54 games for the Blues this season, posting nine points (four goals, five assists) and 44 penalty minutes. Overall, the 6-foot-1, 219-pound defenseman has accumulated 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists) and 142 penalty minutes in 167 career regular season games.
