ST. LOUIS - Many St. Louis Blues fans would be hard-pressed to believe anything could have made the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic more exciting than it already was, but 50/50 raffle winner Mitch Mossman proved it possible when he left the game $67,000 richer.
Born and raised in Alton, Illinois, Mossman is a senior territory manager for Sensus USA, a smart grid sales company. A father and grandfather, the life-long Blues fan dropped his ticket in his drink when he realized his ticket matched the winning number, earning him half of the large combined pot from the Winter Classic and the Winter Classic Alumni Game. He and his son immediately left their seats to confirm he had the winning ticket. Even though Mossman will be receiving a check any day now, he said it still doesn't feel like reality.
"I honestly still can't believe it," Mossman said. "I buy $20 worth of tickets every time I'm at a Blues game just because it's such a great cause. Last year I came within five tickets of winning, and really thought that's the closest I'd ever get. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!"
Mossman hopes this money will provide an opportunity for his big family to do something special together.
And for the record, he made it back to see the end of the game… because for any Blues fan, that win was priceless.
50/50 Raffle Tickets are for sale on the concourse at Scottrade Center during every St. Louis Blues home game. Proceeds benefit Blues for Kids and Blues Alumni. Must be 18 or older to play. Learn more and see the winning numbers at stlouisblues.com/5050
