The St. Louis Blues can become the first team to a clinch a playoff berth with a win tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
A win would give the Blues 100 points, which puts them out of reach for six Western Conference clubs - Columbus, Edmonton, Minnesota, Anaheim, Colorado and Calgary (the Blues own the tiebreaker with the Flames).
Phoenix, Los Angeles or San Jose could still end up with superior point totals than the Blues, but because Phoenix plays San Jose twice and Los Angeles plays San Jose three times, one of those teams would be guaranteed of finishing below St. Louis.
The Blues' best regular season came in 1999-2000, when they captured their first President's Trophy and finished with 114 points. NHL.com contributed to this report.
