June is Pride Month, and the St. Louis Blues are joining the NHL and the NHL Players' Association in celebrating the occasion in a variety of ways.
Pride Month is part of the League's year-round Hockey is for Everyone initiative, which aims to make the game more inclusive to everyone regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.
"Our support of Pride Month reflects the St Louis Blues' commitment to help make our sport and community a safe and inclusive environment for all," said Chris Zimmerman, Blues President and CEO of Business Operations. "Along with the National Hockey League, we have worked on programs for the last two decades to bring meaning and purpose to the Hockey is for Everyone programs. We recognize we have much work still to do. We are proud to partner with the local LGBTQ+ community to celebrate Pride Month."
"For more than a decade, the NHL has been increasing its efforts to show its year-round support on and off the ice for the LGBTQ+ community," added Kim Davis, the NHL's Senior Executive Vice President of Social Impact, Growth Initiatives and Legislative Affairs. "From in-game celebrations throughout the season with fans, to on-ice recognitions with players wearing Pride jerseys and using Pride Tape, to off-ice work with local advocacy organizations across the U.S. and Canada, the endeavor undertaken to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome is ongoing."
The Blues held their own Pride Night last season on April 6 against the Seattle Kraken. Players wore Pride-themed warm-up jerseys, which were auctioned to benefit Pride STL and You Can Play. In addition, a special theme ticket was available that included a pair of Blues Pride socks. A portion of the sales of the theme tickets also benefited Pride STL and You Can Play.
Here are some ways the Blues will be supporting Pride Month:
- Blues, Enterprise Center and Stifel Theatre staff will volunteer to combat hunger on June 11 at Food Outreach, Inc. The organization is dedicated to providing nutritional support and enhancing the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS or cancer.
- Guests can visit the Blues table at Pride St. Charles on June 18 to enter to win a Blues-themed swag bag with Pride items. In addition, SafeZone LGBTQ+ educational materials will also be available.
- Louie, Blue Crew and the Blues staff will participate in the PrideSTL Grand Pride Parade, which will begin on June 26 at 11 a.m. in downtown St. Louis.
