25 Years Since the Monday Night Miracle

by Staff Writer / St. Louis Blues
It was May 12, 1986.

Trailing 5-2 to Calgary in Game 6 of the Campbell Conference Finals, the Blues were in danger of being eliminated from the playoffs with 12 minutes left to go.

And then, arguably the greatest moment in team history was born thanks to the heroics of several players who didn't want the season to end that way.

Brian Sutter scored for the Blues and Greg Paslawski added two goals late in the game to force overtime in Game 6, sending the crowd at The Arena into "pandemonium," as play-by-play broadcaster Ken Wilson so elegantly put it.

In overtime, a hero was born. Doug Wickenheiser buried the game-winning goal to complete perhaps the greatest comeback in Blues history, forcing a Game 7 and creating the lifetime memory known today as the Monday Night Miracle.

May 12, 2011 marked the 25th anniversary of this special moment.
