COLUMBUS, OHIO –
The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman James Wisniewski
on injured reserve, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Wisniewski suffered an ankle injury in the Blue Jackets’ 4-1 win at Dallas on December 29 and is expected to miss six weeks.
Wisniewski has collected two goals and 15 assists for 17 points with 25 penalty minutes in 29 games this season, ranking second among club defensemen in scoring. He has also logged a team-leading 24:55 average time on ice, which ranks 13th among all NHL players.
The 27-year-old native of Canton, Michigan signed with Columbus as a free agent last July and has registered 29-136-165 and 327 penalty minutes in 358 career NHL games. Last season, he set career highs in goals, assists and points after notching 10-41-51 with 38 penalty minutes in 75 games with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders. He ranked fifth among NHL defensemen in points and seventh in assists.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Thursday when they visit the San Jose Sharks. Game time from HP Pavilion at San Jose is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
