BLUE JACKETS ON OPENING NIGHT AT HOME AND ON THE ROAD
Columbus earned a 2-1 win over Minnesota on Oct. 3 to improve its all-time record on opening night to 4-3-2, including a 3-0-1 mark in the last four… Seven of the nine games have been decided by one goal or less… The club is 3-1-2 when opening the season at Nationwide Arena… The Jackets are 3-4-1 all-time in their first road game of the season, winning two of the past three, including a 5-4 overtime win at Dallas on Oct. 10, 2008.

The sellout crowd of 18,159 at Nationwide Arena for the Blue Jackets-Wild season-opening game was the 130th sellout in franchise history and the seventh in the past 17 regular season games… The club also sold out both its home playoff games last spring… RW R.J. Umberger scored a shorthanded goal vs. the Wild, becoming the first Blue Jacket to do so in a season opener… Columbus's 39 shots on goal vs. Minnesota were its most ever on opening night… With the win, Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock improved his opening night record to 8-2-3 (.731)… 2008-09 Calder Trophy winner G Steve Mason stopped 32-of-33 shots vs. Minnesota with Andrew Brunette's power play goal at 4:43 of the third period spoiling his shutout bid… D Rostislav Klesla, Columbus’s first-ever Entry Draft pick, signed a four-year contract extension on Oct. 3 and then scored the game-winning goal in the third period vs. the Wild. It was Klesla’s first game-winning goal since Dec. 29, 2007 vs. Carolina… The line of LW Jason Chimera-C Sammy Pahlsson-RW R.J.
