The Blue Jackets have posted a 5-1-0 record in their first six games, marking the best start in franchise history… The club’s previous best record after six games was 3-2-1 in 2007-08… Columbus has outscored the opposition 18 (3.00 goals per game) to 12 (2.00 goals-against per game, fourth in NHL) in six games… The most wins in October in club history is seven set in 2007-08 (7-3-1).

The Blue Jackets have scored a power play goal in five of their first six games, converting 5-of-21 opportunities (23.8 percent, 12th in the NHL)… Columbus leads the NHL in penalty killing at 95.8 percent, successfully killing off 23-of-24 opponent power plays… Since allowing a power play goal on opening night vs. Minnesota, the Jackets have killed off the last 21 opponent power play attempts they’ve faced. Columbus is tied for the NHL lead with two shorthanded goals (Rick Nash, R.J. Umberger) and has scored more shorthanded goals than the club has allowed power play goals.

Since being shut out on opening night, RW Rick Nash has collected a point in his last five games and is tied for ninth in the NHL in scoring with 3-7-10 in six games… He registered multi-point games in four-straight games before being “held” to one goal vs. Los Angeles on Oct. 17… He is now three goals shy of 200 in his NHL career (197-168-365 in 447 games)… 2008-09 Calder Trophy winner G Steve Mason is 4-1-0 with a 2.35 GAA and .925 SV% in five games this season… He is 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .961 save percentage in his last two starts since surrendering five goals on 20 shots at San Jose on Oct. 8… LW Raffi Torres is tied for second in the NHL with three power play goals… He scored the game-winning goal on Oct. 17 vs. Los Angeles as Columbus improved to 13-1-0 in games he scores over the past two seasons… C Samuel Pahlsson registered his first point as a Blue Jacket with an assist, won eight-of-15 face offs taken and was +2 vs. Los Angeles on Oct. 17.

For the second year in a row, Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash is serving as the spokesman for Time Warner Cable’s month-long adult literacy campaign. During the month of October, Time Warner Cable will donate $5 of every connection fee from its Road Runner high speed Internet and Digital Phone services to adult literacy programs throughout its Mid-Ohio Division service area.

The Ken Hitchcock Show with the Blue Jackets head coach and FOX Sports Ohio play-by-play man Jeff Rimer airs on WBNS Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan on Wednesdays at its new time from 6 to 7 p.m… Breakfast with the Blue Jackets can be heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan on Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m. with hosts Mark Wyant and members of the Blue Jackets broadcast team.
