OCT. 25 – at BLUE JACKETS 4, Red Wings 1:
R.J. Umberger scored 21 seconds into the game and Columbus scored the game’s final three goals en route to their first win of the season. Umberger and rookie Ryan Johansen each tallied 1-1-2 and Grant Clitsome collected a career-high three assists to lead the Blue Jackets attack, while Steve Mason made 30 saves in net. Rookie John Moore and Derek MacKenzie added goals for Columbus, which outshot Detroit 32 to 31… OCT. 27 – at Sabres 4, BLUE JACKETS 2: The Blue Jackets erased a 2-0 deficit and tied the game at 2-2 on a Fedor Tyutin goal at 10:51 of the third period, but the Sabres got goals from Patrick Kaleta at the 14:08 mark and Jason Pominville just 3:28 later to seal the win despite being outshot 43 to 26 by Columbus. Pominville tallied 2-1-3 and Jhonas Enroth made 41 saves to lead Buffalo, while Vinny Prospal added a goal for the Jackets… OCT. 29 – at Blackhawks 5, BLUE JACKETS 2: Chicago’s Viktor Stalberg scored two goals 1:58 apart early in the third period to propel the Hawks to the win. The Jackets overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits on goals by Vinny Prospal and Derek MacKenzie to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third period. Michael Frolik added an empty net goal for Chicago, which got 27 saves from Ray Emery. Allen York made 33 saves in his first NHL start for Columbus… OCT. 30 – at BLUE JACKETS 3, Ducks 1: Steve Mason made 19 saves and the Blue Jackets got goals from Rick Nash, Ryan Johansen and Fedor Tyutin en route to their second-straight win at Nationwide Arena. After Nash and Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan traded goals in the first period, Johansen and Tyutin beat Ducks goaltender Dan Ellis in the second to round out the scoring. James Wisniewski tallied two assists for his first multi-point game as a Jacket.

The Blue Jackets have gone 2-2-0 in their last four games and are riding a two-game home winning streak… The club has killed off 12-of-14 opponent power plays (85.7 pct.) over the past four games compared to 18-of-28 (64.3 pct.) in its first eight games… The Blue Jackets have scored power play goals in six of the last eight games after being shut out in their first four… Columbus outshot Buffalo 43 to 26 in a 4-2 loss on Oct. 27, falling two shots shy of the club record for shots in a road game (45 – Apr. 8, 2011 at Nashville)… After playing 12 games in 24 days, the club plays four times in the next 15.


NASH IS TWO POINTS SHY OF 500: RW Rick Nash became the first player to appear in 600 games as a Blue Jacket at Ottawa on Oct. 22 and fired off his 2,000th career shot at Buffalo on Oct. 27. The next milestone Nash is poised to reach is 500 points as the Jackets captain is now just two points shy of becoming the first player in club history to reach that plateau. With 4-6-10 in 12 games this season, he has now tallied 263-235-498 in 604 career games.

THE WIZ OPENS TO RAVE REVIEWS; DEFENSE PARTNER TYUTIN SURGES AS WELL: After missing the first eight games due to suspension, D James Wisniewski has collected 0-4-4 with four penalty minutes, eight shots on goal and a +2 plus/minus rating in his first four games as a Blue Jacket. After being held without a point in his debut vs. Detroit on Oct. 25, he is riding a three-game point streak (0-4-4), including 0-2-2 vs. Anaheim on Oct. 30 for his first multi-point game with the club. Columbus was 0-7-1 prior to his return and has gone 2-2-0 since. Defense partner Fedor Tyutin has also flourished during the past four games as he has 2-1-3 with 11 shots on goal and a +6 plus/minus rating. That compares to his first eight games in which he tallied 0-2-2 and was -3.

LW R.J. Umberger, who has played in 261 consecutive games since Apr. 2, 2008 (club record 258-straight as a Blue Jacket), has racked up 1-3-4 in his last four games after being held to 0-1-1 in his first eight outings… G Steve Mason is 2-1-0 with a 2.03 GAA and .922 SV% in his last three games… Rookie C Ryan Johansen has tallied 2-2-4 in his last five games after failing to record a point in his first four NHL contests and has scored the game-winning goal in both of Columbus’ wins this season (Oct. 25 vs. Detroit and Oct. 30 vs. Anaheim)… LW Vinny Prospal scored goals in back-to-back games at Buffalo on Oct. 27 and at Chicago on Oct. 29 and leads the club with 5-5-10 in 12 games… C Derek MacKenzie has scored goals in two of the last four games… C Antoine Vermette, who has appeared in 192 consecutive games with the Blue Jackets, has collected an assist in five of the past six games and is four points shy of 300 for his NHL career (133-163-296 in 551 games).

The first Blue Jackets Celebrity Reading appearance of 2011 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1. Defenseman Marc Methot will be at the Gahanna branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, located at 310 Granville St., from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The appearance is part of the Columbus Blue Jackets Book Jackets program Powered by AEP, which encourages students in grades K-8 to spend more of their free time reading. The program helps students become All-Star readers with updated goals. Students keep "score" of minutes read throughout a four-week period and are rewarded with Blue Jackets prizes upon completion. Fans are invited to join Blue Jackets players Steve Mason, Marc Methot and Derek Dorsett at the R Bar in the Arena District on Tuesday, November 8 for the Bud Light Celebrity Bartending event from 7 to 9 p.m. Numerous activities and prize giveaways are planned for the night with all tips received by the players donated to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.

The Blue Jackets will celebrate Military Appreciation Night when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, November 10. Numerous military groups will be in attendance at the game and participating in a variety of in-game activities. Blue Jackets players will be wearing special camouflage practice jerseys during pre-game warm ups that will be signed and auctioned that night and on Saturday, November 12 with proceeds benefiting the Student Veterans Affairs Fund at The Ohio State University. A special 50/50 raffle also will take place as well with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Operation Buckeye (for more information, visit In addition, all active or retired military personnel will receive a free ticket with an accompanying paid admission at the Nationwide Arena Box Office. The offer will also be good for the November 21 game vs. Calgary.

The Blue Jackets, FOX Sports Ohio and Columbia Gas have teamed up to offer the Florida Fly Away Giveaway, a contest where fans have a chance to win a player autographed puck and a trip for two to Florida. Beginning Thursday, November 3, fans who watch the Blue Jackets on FOX Sports Ohio will be given a Florida Fly Away keyword. The Columbus Blue Jackets official mobile app, through the NHL GameCenter platform, gives fans a new way to follow the team using their smart phones and mobile devices on the Apple and Android operating systems.
