Oct. 20 – at COLUMBUS 3, ANAHEIM 1: Steve Mason made 31 saves and Rick Nash scored a pair of goals to lead the Jackets to their first home win of the season. Derek MacKenzie scored the other goal for Columbus, which was outshot 32 to 22 in the game. Columbus killed off all five Anaheim power play attempts in the game… Oct. 22 – CALGARY 6, at COLUMBUS 2: Rene Bourque collected a hat trick and added an assist and Jarome Iginla had 0-3-3 to lead the Flames to the win. The Jackets had closed a 2-0 deficit to 2-1 on a Derek Dorsett goal late in the first period before Bourque scored twice, including shorthanded at 5:08 of the second, to give the Flames a 4-1 lead. Jan Hejda's first goal made it 4-2 midway through the second but that was as close as Columbus would get. The Flames held a slim 23 to 22 edge in shots… Oct. 23 – COLUMBUS 3, at CHICAGO 2: Antoine Vermette's goal at 6:29 of the third period capped a Blue Jackets comeback to earn the club their third win in as many road games. The Blackhawks took a 2-0 lead into the second period on goals by Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews before Derick Brassard cut the lead to 2-1 with :37 left in the period and R.J. Umberger's power play goal 1:33 into the third tied the game at 2-2. Steve Mason made 30 saves to outduel Corey Crawford (37 saves) in net.
TEAM NEWS & NOTES
Columbus has won its first three road games for the first time in club history with each coming by scores of 3-2 (vs. San Jose on Oct. 9 in Stockholm; at Minnesota on Oct. 16 and at Chicago on Oct. 23… The Blue Jackets have played three of 18 sets of back-to-back games so far this season and have gone 3-3-0 in those games with both wins coming in the third game… Prior to this season, Columbus was 68-63-19 in the first game of back-to-backs and 47-82-21 in the second… The Jackets are 38-56-10 all-time in October, but have gone 21-17-2 in the month since 2007.
NASH NETS 35TH MULTI-GOAL GAME
LW/RW Rick Nash scored two goals vs. Anaheim on Oct. 20 to record the 35th multi-goal game of his career and his first since Mar. 30, 2010 vs. Tampa Bay. His 35 multi-goal games are more than the next three players on the Blue Jackets’ all-time list combined – Geoff Sanderson – 12; David Vyborny – 11; and R.J. Umberger – 9). Nash enters this week five assists shy of 200 in his NHL career (230-195-425 in 524 games).
UMBERGER SET TO PLAY IN 400TH NHL GAME
LW R.J. Umberger will play in his 400th NHL game tonight (Oct. 25) when the Jackets host his former club, the Philadelphia Flyers. Umberger, who has registered 102-120-222 in 399 career games, scored his team-leading fourth goal at Chicago on Saturday and is now tied for the team lead in points with 4-1-5 in seven games. He has scored two shorthanded goals, one power play goal and one even-strength goal so far this season. Umberger has also played in 174-straight games since Apr. 2, 2008, including all 171 with the Blue Jackets.
G Steve Mason has made 30 or more saves in four of his six starts this season… C Derek MacKenzie scored goals in back-to-back games at Minnesota on Oct. 16 and vs. Anaheim on Oct. 20 and added 0-1-1 vs. Calgary on Oct. 22 to record the first three-game point streak of his NHL career… C Antoine Vermette picked up his first multi-point game with 1-1-2 at Chicago on Oct. 23… After being held to one shot in his first two games, C Derick Brassard has fired off 19 in his last five games. He led the club with six and scored his first goal of the season at Chicago on Oct. 23… D Marc Methot collected 0-2-2 at Chicago on Oct. 23 to match his career high for assists and record the third multi-point game of his career... RW Chris Clark is two goals shy of 100 in his NHL career (98-104-202 in 559 games).
